Pima men dominate in second-round win over Davidson-Davie in NJCAA Division II tournament

The No. 4-seeded Pima Community College men’s basketball team shot 54.7% from the field, led by Mason Hunt’s 11-of-16 performance with 30 points and Brock Mendoza’s 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting, in a 108-80 over No. 13 Davidson-Davie (N.C.) in the second round of the NJCAA Division II tournament at Danville, Ill.

Pima (33-0) advances to the quarterfinals Thursday at 3 p.m., Tucson time, when it will play No. 5 Iowa Central (21-12). The Tritons defeated No. 12 Livonia (Mich.) Schoolcraft 69-50 on Monday in another second round game.

Pima coasted against Davidson-Davie after building a 60-39 halftime lead.

Former Pueblo standout Isaiah Hill finished with 18 points (6 of 10 from the field) with eight assists and three steals.

Rowan McKenzie made 6 of 9 shots from the field and finished with 15 points.

Reserve guards Will Feagles (11 points) and Gerron Graham (six assists) also contributed.

Davidson-Davie also shot well, making 55.9% from the field, but Pima forced the Storm into 15 turnovers that led to 25 points.

The Aztecs had only six turnovers compared to their 24 assists on 41 made field goals.
