If all holds true, Salpointe standout Reagan Burgle will be the 22nd volleyball player from Southern Arizona to play for the University of Arizona since 1980 but only the fifth since 2010. She will be the third athlete from Salpointe to play Indoor Volleyball, although several have played Beach Volleyball for the Wildcats over the last decade or so.
“I am so excited to represent the Arizona Wildcats on the court in 2028,” Burgle told AllSportsTucson. “It is an honor to commit to play for Coach Rita. She runs a great program, and I’ve looked up to her ever since I started playing volleyball at age five. She has practically watched me grow up in the gym.”
Current Beach head coach Steve Walker was an Indoor assistant coach in 2000 and again from 2003- 2005 and current Indoor head coach Charita Stubbs played for the Wildcats from 1992-1994 and she was an assistant coach from 1997-2005 and again from 2013-2022. Walker and Stubbs also have experience caching some of the players listed below on the club scene.
“Receiving an offer to play for the UA was a dream come true,” Burgle added. “McKale feels like home to me, and I look forward to working hard to continue improving my game. I’m grateful for the support the Tucson community shows for Arizona Athletics, and I can’t wait for the fall 2028 season!”
Burgle was a first-team All-4A Conference selection last year as the junior-to-be libero collected 400 digs to help her setters collect over 1,300 assists. Her 400 digs put her in the top 12 in the 4A Conference but only four of those athletes ahead of her played fewer sets than Burgle. Salpointe will compete in the 5A Conference next year.
