Coaches for Charity held a kickoff luncheon on Saturday involving teams from Sabino, Sahuaro, Sunnyside, Nogales, Rincon, Pueblo, Buena and Tucson. Former University of Arizona and Chicago Bears standout Lance Briggs was the keynote speaker.

“Football is football and I’m honored to be able to speak to these young men today,” Briggs told AllSportsTucson.com before the luncheon.

“Football will teach them a lot about life and the impact it has and how they will one day be able to give back to the game and society,” he added.

Briggs was also a standout at national power Elk Grove High School in California. He remembers those days fondly.

“We were a dominate team with two state championships,” Briggs said. “We sent a lot of kids to college but I feel you learn more about yourself from losing than winning and we won a lot of games. I did a lot of personal growth at Arizona and I’m grateful for that experience also.”

Briggs also announced that he will attend Arizona in the fall to try to earn his degree. The future NFL Hall of Famer feels he owes that to his family and teachers.
