Ex-Cat T.J. McConnell hits game-winner for Sixers

Former Arizona Wildcats point guard T.J. McConnell has been playing very well since recently being inserted into the starting lineup for the Philadelphia 76ers.

He had a 17-assist game last week, and in a spot start last month, nearly had a triple-double.

And now this from Wednesday night …

McConnell has started the past five games for Philadelphia, the first three because starter Sergio Rodriguez was out with a sprained ankle. But the Sixers have stuck with McConnell in the starting lineup the past two games, even after Rodriguez’s return to the court.

McConnell had eight points, seven assists and six rebounds in Wednesday’s win over New York, with the winning points coming from a shot over Carmelo Anthony.

In the past five games as the starter, McConnell is averaging 9.2 points, 8.8 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game. He has a 46-to-10 assist-to-turnover ratio in that span.

Most importantly: The Sixers are 4-1, with the only loss being a four-point setback at a really good Boston team, when McConnell had his 17 assists.
