Ian Kinsler’s home run for Detroit on Sunday, his third in four games at that point, increased the former Canyon del Oro High School’s career amount to 229 in his 11-year big-league career.
That number leads all of the 14 Tucsonans who have hit a home run in the majors. All told, 807 home runs have been hit by players who grew up in Tucson.
Former Sahuaro standout Alex Verdugo became the 14th player from Tucson to hit a home run in the majors on Sunday as a pinch-hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers in their game with Colorado at Dodger Stadium.
