Pima Community College’s men’s soccer team – the national champions – had two players listed on the All-America team.
Sophomore forward Hugo Kametani was selected first team NJCAA Division I All-American while sophomore defender Kaskile Zawadi (Cholla HS) was named second team NJCAA Division I All-American.
Pima coach Dave Cosgrove said recently Kametani was the best player to ever play for Pima. Kametani set a new Pima single season record with 30 goals (he was second in the nation). He had seven game-winning goals including the second overtime goal against Barton Community College which propelled the Aztecs to their first NJCAA Division I National title. He was named the NJCAA Division I National Player of the Tournament.
Kametani was named ACCAC/Region I Player of the Year and first team All-ACCAC. He played and started in all 28 games this season.
Zawadi helped anchor a defense that gave up only 17 goals all season. The Aztecs also had 17 shutout victories this season; which included 12 in their final 15 games.
This is the sixth consecutive year the Aztecs have produced at least one NJCAA All-American. Kametani and Zawadi become the 20th and 21st men’s soccer All-Americans.
Pima has produced 11 All-Americans in the last 12 years. Some of Pima’s previous All-Americans include AJ Valenzuela (2017), Hector Banegas (2016), Jason Romero (2015), Arturo Vega (2014), Alexis Medina (2013), Eric Glad (2011), Minh Vu (2010, 2009) and Fernando Gauna (2007).
