Over 100 of the finest softball players from Southern Arizona took part in the First Annual Southern Arizona All-Star Games Wednesday night at Lincoln Park. Presented by the Kino Baseball League (KBL), Bill Leith and Bill Fronzaglio continue to leave their positive mark on the youth sports scene in Southern Arizona by offering an important compliment to the very successful High School Baseball All-Star Games.
The athletes were divided into eight teams with four teams dedicated to seniors and four set aside for undergraduates. Each game lasted nine innings to allow for more playing opportunities.
Athletes from 1A to 6A played together on the same teams with no noticeable drop in talent which serves as an example of the higher caliber of softball played in Southern Arizona, not to mention the superior coaching. For many of the senior athletes, this was their final organized high school softball game and this event offered them the opportunity to take away one final positive moment with teammates, friends and parents.
