The fruits of their labor continue as the Sunnyside Little League team on Monday morning was honored at the Pima County Board of Supervisors’ meeting.
Sunnyside, which came a game away from advancing to the Little League World Series, was honored in a speech given by Supervisor Ramon Valadez. Although Sunnyside lost in the West Regional final to Hawaii, the the team is reaping the benefits of its diligence, including 4- to- 5-hour practices, during the summer.
Valadez read a declaration from the Board of Supervisors that included the proclamation Aug. 19 is Sunnyside Little League 2019 Major Division Baseball Day.
“Throughout this entire championship baseball season, the Sunnyside Little League baseball team learned lifelong lessons about camaraderie, team pride, good sportsmanship, character, confidence, competence, respect and community connectedness … this exceptional experience will serve to shape these championship athletes in positive ways, which will remain with them for the rest of their lives and off the field,” Valadez read from the declaration.
