Two phenomenons tonight with the WILDABOUTAZCATS.net productivity rating system, going on its second year at this Web site: Arizona Wildcats sophomore guard Gabe York already has surpassed his productivity total from all of last year and four UA players had at least a 1.000 perfect rating against Long Beach State.

York had 26 productivity points in 23 minutes in the Arizona Wildcats’ 91-57 victory over Long Beach State at McKale Center. That gives him 43 productivity points in 49 minutes, an .878 rating. Last season, when York only played 15 games, he finished with only 40 productivity points in 87 minutes.

“The guy who, I think, is really standing out for us is Gabe York,” Miller was quoted as saying after the game by ArizonaWildcats.com.”In the first two games and through our early practices, I think it is obvious that he is a much improved player. He has worked extremely hard from last year.

“When he comes in the game, he really does a great job. The fact that he had six assists and no turnovers, that stat there is every bit as remarkable as the way he shot the ball tonight. He’s a pivotal part of us moving forward. I’m happy for him.”

The three other Arizona Wildcats with at least a 1.000 rating against were Brandon Ashley, with a team-high 1.333 (28 productivity points in 21 minutes), Aaron Gordon (1.120, 26-23) and Kaleb Tarczewkski (1,000, 19-19). Tarczewski started after coming off the bench Friday against Cal Poly because of the 49ers’ more physical frontline.

Stats of the night: The Arizona Wildcats’ starting frontcourt (Ashley, Gordon and Tarczewski) had 27 rebounds compared to Long Beach State’s team total of 29, and Ashley, Gordon and Tarczewski made one less field goal (16) than the entire 49er team (17).

“Coach Miller says that we’re the biggest team ever here at Arizona, or at least much bigger than last year, so we go into every game
expecting to get every rebound,” Tarczewski said in the postgame press conference.

For the second consecutive season, Ashley dominated Long Beach State. He had a season-high 40 productivity points in only 24 minutes last season against the 49ers at McKale Center.

Gordon had his second consecutive double-double (14 points and 10 rebounds). The Arizona Wildcats were productive overall thanks to their 22 assists compared to only 11 turnovers.

“The chemistry we have on this team is unrivaled to any team that I’ve been on,” Ashley said in the postgame press conference.

“We spent a lot of time together this summer. The bonding we’ve done on and off the court has really helped us as a team.”
