Over the next week or so, we will be introducing our readers to all the local sports anchors responsible for making Friday Nights come alive in your living room.

Today: Richie Melby

Richie Melby is a graduate of the Montana State University system who has made stops in Billings, MT and Great Falls, MT before joining the KVOA News 4 Tucson sports team in February 2014.

In his own words:

“Growing up in rural Montana, sports were the talk of the town. I can still remember watching the local news on Friday or Saturday nights and being excited just seeing the score from our game at the bottom of the screen. I keep those memories fresh in my mind and imagine myself as a viewer when presenting sports.

The University of Arizona was a big draw for my wife, Fallon, and I to move to Tucson, but it’s truly the local sports that I enjoy covering. Anyone in this business can read highlights, but finding the story inside the story is a true challenge. If a casual sports fan tells me they enjoyed one of my features, I can consider the job well done.

Southern Arizona is full of incredible athletes who deserve to have their stories told. My goal is to cross as many of them as possible off the list.

Feel free to email me (rmelby@kvoa.com) or follow me on Twitter (@richiemelby) or Facebook (Richie Melby TV) and bookmark my blog and “photo of the day” on my website (www.richiemelby.weebly.com).”
