Off-the-beaten-path storylines: Arizona Wildcats at Colorado Buffaloes

[tps_title]Hey Clark Kent is a nerd …[/tps_title]

Steve Rivera of GOAZCATS.com wrote a feature on Arizona linebacker Jake Matthews this week after Matthews filled in admirably against Oregon State at middle linebacker, a spot that has a revolving door this year because of injury.

Matthews is labeled as a “nerd” in the story by teammate Paul Magloire as a joke by because he is very scholarly. He is studing pre-neuroscience and cognitive science (interdisciplinary scientific study of the mind and its processes).

“He’s a smart kid who had to prove himself Division 1 worthy in earning a scholarship while at the university,” former Arizona linebacker Jake Fischer told Rivera. “He studies and breaks down film like a professional. His freshman year after every practice – he, Scooby (Wright), Derrick (Turituri) and DeAndre’ Miller would ask one of us to go over film with them. They came into college with a great work ethic and eye for details.”
