Willcox survives first round of soccer playoffs

DIVISION V FALL SOCCER

The first round of the Division V soccer playoffs took place Thursday and Willcox was the only team from Southern Arizona that survived the night.

The Cowboys defeated Desert Christian 3-1 while The Gregory School was blanked 3-0 by Lakeside Blue Ridge. On the girl’s side, Desert Christian lost to Chino Valley 4-3.

Carlos Figueroa put Willcox up 1-0 in the 18th minute and Gera Rivera scored on a penalty kick in the 25th minute. That goal proved to provide the winning margin but Morey Torres added another goal in the 41st minute.

Desert Christian scored in the 55th minute.

Willcox will play No. 1 Chino valley on Saturday in the quarterfinal round.
