Arizona Athletics: 10 Wildcats earn Conference & Academic Honors

Blake Paugh (UA)

University of Arizona baseball standouts Quinn Flanagan (Chandler Corona del Sol) and Blake Paugh (Scottsdale Chaparral) were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team the conference announced on Thursday. Flanagan was a red-shirt freshman who carried a 3.68 GPA in Pre-Business and Paugh was a sophomore with a 3.78 in Pre-Business.

Wildcat sophomore Tate Soderstrom (Turlock, California) earned Honorable Mention status for his studies.

Bianca Pagdanganan (UA)

Arizona women’s golf standouts Yu-Sang Hou (So. Taipei, Taiwan) and Bianca Pagdanganan (Sr. Quezon City, Philippines) earned Women’s Golf Coaches Association Second Team All-American honors. Senior Haley Moore (Escondido) earned Honorable Mention status.

Trevor Werbylo (UA)

Arizona Men’s Golf standout Trevor Werbylo (So. Salpointe) earned All-Pac-12 Second Team honors.

Christina Berg (UA)

Arizona Gymnastics standout Christina Berg (Jr. Tinley Park, Illinois) was named All-Pac-12 Second Team on the Bars the Conference announced on Sunday.

Carlos Villarreal (Arizona)

University of Arizona track athletes Trevor Volpe (So. Salpointe) and Carlos Villarreal (Jr. Rio Rico) were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic (MPSF) Scholar Athlete Team.


Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014 and he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017 and he has been a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years. His own children have won multiple state high school championships and were named to all-state teams. Competing in hockey, basketball, baseball and track & field in high school, his unique perspective can only be found here and on Andy is the Southern Arizona voting member of the Ed Doherty Award, recognizing the top football player in Arizona, and he was named a Local Hero by the Tucson Weekly for 2016.
