Frog & Firkin Little League Report: Sunnyside Senior Baseball Run-Rules Another Opponent in the Western Regional Tournament


The Sunnyside Senior Little League team dominating again in Western Regional play at Sacramento, Calif., on Friday afternoon, beating Washington 10-0 in six innings.

Wyatt Stockam went 4 for 5 with two RBIs and Martin Banuelos finished 2 for 4 with a double, run and three RBIs to lead Sunnyside to the dominating win which came a day after it routed Oregon 21-0.

Sunnyside, which is on a 6-0 run in state and regional action, will next play So Cal on Saturday night at 8:30 in a winners bracket semifinal. So Cal beat host team Citrus Heights 13-7 in an opening round game Thursday.

Alex Lopez went 2 for 3 with a double and a run against Washington. Armando Valenzuela was 1 for 3 with a run and two RBIs and Francisco Olivares went 1 for 3 with a run and two RBIs.

In the two victories for Sunnyside at Sacramento, Lopez is 5 for 6 with three doubles and three RBIs and Banuelos is 4 for 6 with six RBIs.

Five Sunnyside pitchers combined to allow only four hits. Reliever Gabe Ortiz, who attends Tucson High School, pitched three innings allowing only one hit with three strikeouts and one walk.
