Mica Mountain announced the hiring of Shane Folsom to lead the Thunderbolts baseball team. Folsom led Sabino to 3A state championships in 2019 and 2021. There were no playoffs in 2020 due to COVID precautions and the team ended that season 9-0.

“I am excited to take over this new program,” Folsom told AllSportsTucson. “I enjoyed my time at Sabino but this is a great opportunity and challenge for me to take on. I am grateful for the opportunity to take Mica Mountain baseball to the next level.”

Folsom (121-100) coached at Catalina for six seasons before moving over to Sabino in November of 2018.

Mica Mountain is slated to compete in the 4A Gila Region along with Amphitheater, Douglas, Rio Rico, Sahuarita and Walden Grove. This placement will hold for at least two years. Sabino will compete in the 3A South Region.
