Former Arizona running back Ka’Deem Carey, the school’s career rushing record holder, was selected by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round this morning.

Carey was the 117th pick overall and first taken from Arizona in the NFL Draft, which started with the first round on Thursday.

The Canyon del Oro High School product will be united with one of Arizona’s best defensive players in the program’s history, linebacker Lance Briggs, with the Bears. Here are some of the notable social media reactions about Carey’s selection by Chicago, including one by yours truly who envisioned the Carey-Briggs combination before it happened:

Here is Briggs’ welcome to the Bear family. A reminder, Chicago uses the slogan “Bear Down” as well.

Solid move on Carey’s part to allow Tucson’s media access to his home for the draft festivities today.

Carey will also join for Arizona hoops player Fendi Onobun, a tight end with the Bears’ practice squad last year, and offensive lineman Eben Britton. That means Briggs, Carey, Onobun and Britton are still bearing down. (Thanks to former Arizona linebacker Donnie Salum for the head’s up with Britton).

ESPN’s draft analysts did not mention Carey’s name in this morning’s broadcast until his selection was announced. Carey has a lot of motivation ahead for how he was overlooked by so many.

Arizona Republic NFL writer Kent Somers, a veteran reporter with a long history of covering the Cardinals, knows talent when he sees it.

Former Arizona Wildcats teammate Trevin Wade, who was with the New Orleans Saints last year, offers his congratulations.

The NFL allows two teammates from bitter college rivals to create a bond.
