Donny Sands promoted to Charleston, picks up important RBI in first game

Former Salpointe standout Donny Sands was promoted to the Charleston RiverDogs (Class-A) Monday from the Gulf Coast League Yankees where he hit .309 with nine doubles and 26 RBIs.

Sands was inserted in the starting lineup (3B) today and he helped the RiverDogs (Yankees) defeat the Asheville Tourists (Rockies) 4-3.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Sands reached on a fielder’s choice to score the tying run and then took off for second, allowing the winning run to score on a rundown. It was the first RBI for Sands with Charleston.
