[tps_title]What now for UCLA with Myles Jack out?[/tps_title]
UCLA linebacker Myles Jack also suffered a meniscus injury in practice but his situation was more severe, requiring stitching, according to coach Jim Mora. That’s why Jack is lost for the season.
Mora added that defensive backs Ishmael Adams and Tahaan Goodman along with linebackers Cameron Judge and Aaron Wallace are in the mix to play in the spot Jack occupied behind the defensive front.
Whereas Arizona used walk-ons and unheralded recruits to back up Wright in the first three games, Adams, Goodman, Judge and Wallace could play most anywhere.
Adams and Goodman were Rivals.com four-star recruits out of high school. Judge and Wallace rated at three stars.
Wright’s backups:
Haden Gregory — No stars, walk-on. He’s out with a knee injury.
Tre Tyler — No stars, walk-on.
Antonio Smothers — Junior college transfer.
To Arizona’s advantage with UCLA’s makeshift defense is the Wildcats’ uptempo style on offense, hence the reason why Adams and Goodman may have to fill the role at Jack’s spot from time to time.
“If they substitute, then we have a chance to substitute,” Mora told reporters this week. “Now, they don’t substitute a lot, but if they do, then we have to be ready to substitute. If they get first down, you have to be ready to get a guy in with the clock stoppage.
“If you get stuck with the wrong people on the field — which happens in every game — then you have to be ready to play and hold up for a down.”
