Monday, Nov. 23
Cholla 66, Ironwood Ridge 44
Ironwood Ridge (0-1) was held to three points in the fourth quarter as Cholla (1-0) slowly pulled away for the 66-44 win in the first game of the Salpointe Tipoff Classic Monday night.
Cholla was led by senior James Dominguez (26 points) and sophomore Marcel Dean (14) while Jevon Jones and Chris Barraza pitched in eight points each. PJ Pena led the Nighthawks with 10 points. Drew McKearney had nine, Jack McKearney added eight and Cole Gerken scored seven.
Nogales 67, Amphitheater 40
Nogales (1-0) put on the pressure from beginning to end and cashed in on several fast break points to defeat Amphitheater (0-1) 67-40.
Jose Estrada paced Nogales with 20 points while Adalberto Diaz scored 11. Samuel Leglue scored eight. For Amphitheater, Taylor John scored 11 and Isiah Ingram had seven.
Sunnyside 70, Cienega 63
Sunnyside (1-0) was down 51-41 at one point but the Blue Devils turned it on in the second half to defeat Cienega (0-1) 70-63.
Senior standout Jacob Inclan scored 23 points to lead Sunnyside and Cesar Ozuna added 20 while Mikey Silva scored 14. Santino Duarte tore an ACL before the season started and will sit our a few months.
Isaiah Murphy led all scorers with 25 points and Andrew Leonard added 19 for Cienega.
Salpointe 66, Rincon 61
Salpointe (1-0) and Rincon (0-1) battled back and forth but the Lancers slowly pulled away in the second and third quarters. The Rangers were able to cut the lead back down to three points several times in final moments but they couldn’t get over the hump and lost 66-61.
6-foot-10 Brendan Rumel led all scorers with 22 points and Thomas Wabaunsee added 18 for Rincon. Salpointe had even scoring with Cameron Miller and Isaac Cruz both scoring 15. Ethan Parkhurst scored 11 and freshman Majok Deng scored nine in his debut.
