Preseason basketball tournaments continued Tuesday at Salpointe, Immaculate Heart and The Gregory School. The Small School Boyd Baker Tournament shifts to bracket play on Wednesday while the Salpointe Tipoff Classic finishes up pool play.

Sunnyside (2-0) and Salpointe (2-0) are the only undefeated teams remaining at the Tipoff Classic

The Baboquivari teams appear to be in control at Immaculate Heart while several teams are batting it out at The Gregory School.

The Gregory School junior Nick Rosquist has put up to huge games, scoring 49 and 47 points.

“My teammates are amazing at finding me when I’m open and the coaches always put us in spots to be successful,” Rosquist said via release on his scoring burst. “I hope to have more games like that this year. But in all honestly, as long as I can help my team win I’ll be happy no matter what.”

Rosquist plays for AZ Power Tucson in the offseason and he has earned offers from South Mountain Community College and Oakland City University. “I have recently been contacted by Portland University, Portland State University, University of Denver, Arizona Christian University, Benedictine University, Blackburn College, and Embry-Riddle University,” Rosquist explained.

Pusch Ridge coach David Thomas knows Rosquist well from his other position as director of boys basketball for AZ Power Tucson. “Nick is a really bright kid. I watched him play a few times last year as well as this past summer in the Tucson Summer Pro League and he’s a kid that can impact a game.” Thomas said.

“He’s fearless, he’s smart, and he’s a great teammate. I’m not really concerned by him playing at a small school, scoring 40 plus points at any level is extremely difficult to do.”

Frank Mgbolu (2011) was the last player from The Gregory School to gain attention. Now a senior at St, Edwards, Mgbolu led the Hawks to two state championships.
