The winter break is here so it’s a good time to take a look at the girl’s basketball standings from Southern Arizona. All records used will be from non invitational games.
Division II/Section I
Sahuaro is 4-1 and Cienega is 3-1. The Bobcats went 30-1 last year but that was a dream season and should not be used as a measuring stick. The two teams won’t meet until February.
Division II/Section IV
Tucson (6-0) and Ironwood Ridge (5-0) have shot out of the gates to take control. The Nighthawks have a huge win over Sahuaro on their resume. The Badgers feature Alexis Cortez and her incredible 35 points a game average and Ironwood Ridge has senior standout Lexy Ram on their roster.
Don’t count out Catalina Foothills (4-1) and Canyon del Oro (4-2).

Division III/Section III
Pueblo is 3-0 in section play and it will be difficult for other teams to catch them. Literally. The Warriors a quick and blitz you with a great starting five led by sophomore Ilyssa Galindo (14.4 points per game).
Nogales (3-0) and Safford (4-1) will be right there.
Division IV/Section II
Pusch Ridge (4-0) and Pima (4-0) are the two early powers but Tanque Verde (3-1) and Thatcher (2-0) will have a few things to say before it’s all over.
Division V/Section II
The Gregory School is 3-0 and leading at this point but Bowie/San Simon is right there at 3-1.
Division V/Section VI
The Baboquivari girls (3-1) have shot out to a quick start. Immaculate Heart (3-3) will be in the battle.
