The Buccaneers made 12 of 26 three-point shots, but the third-ranked Wildcats, led by Sean Rooks’ 17 second-half points, took control late in the game. Arizona took the lead for good at 66-65 with 8:46 remaining when the 6-foot-11 Rooks, who finished with 21 points, made a short jumper. The Wildcats built their lead to 83-72 on a dunk by Brian Williams with 1:34 remaining, and took a 87-74 lead in the final minute on two free throws by Chris Mills. Williams finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds.

Freshman reserve forward Deron Johnson led a balanced scoring effort with 14 points as Arizona extended its McKale Center winning streak to 50 games with a 90-51 win over Western Illinois on Nov. 26, 1990.

The late Brian Williams contributed 19 points and 17 rebounds in Arizona’s 88-79 win over East Tennessee State on Nov. 16, 1990, extending the Wildcats’ McKale Center win streak to 49 games.

With a smothering defense and balanced scoring led by freshman reserve forward Deron Johnson’s 14 points, Arizona defended its new No. 2 ranking. The Wildcats improved to 5-0 to start the 1990-91 season fresh off winning the Big Apple NIT title over Arkansas before facing Western Illinois. The Leathernecks were held to only 32.2 percent shooting from the field. Arizona scored on 22 layups, including eight following offensive rebounds.
