Six athletes from Mountain View signed earlier today in a ceremony held at the school:
Vanessa Carpenter, Gateway University: Softball
Bryce Coleman, Eastern Arizona: Football
DeShaun Flannigan-Fowles, Eastern Arizona: Football
Alyssa Lovato, Eastern New Mexico: Softball
Justice Summerset, Arizona: Track
Cody Treatch, Gateway University: Baseball
Justice Summerset will be competing in the high jump at the University of Arizona. Summerset has the Tucson record for 7 feet, just 2-1/4 inches shy of the state record. He also passed for 5,264 yards in his career as a quarterback for the Mountain Lions. That mark put him fourth best all-time for Southern Arizona.
But Summerset can say goodbye to football because the high jump is a full-time sport in college.
“I’m super excited about being a Wildcat,” Summerset said before he signed his NLI. “This is a dream come true. I might run a bit but I get to focus on the high jump now.”
His training will officially shift to the high jump once he graduates from Mountain View. The unique and specific training for that sport will be under the guidance of the Arizona staff. Who knows what his true potential will be under those circumstances?
In addition, Kali Iago of Cienega signed to play volleyball with Western New Mexico. The All-Southern Arizona player was part of a ceremony held last week at her school.
“It’s not possible for us to be more proud of her,” said her father Mac Iago. “Kali is an exceptional person and has worked so hard for everything. She truly deserves this and many people are owed our thanks for her success.”
