
Three-time state champion Daesiah Varner of Cienega became the first wrestler in program history to go unbeaten in a season, finishing 36-0 after earning her title in the AIA Division I tournament.
Varner beat Peoria Centennial’s Camille Gatrost by a 6-1 decision in the 237-pound final on Feb. 21 at Phoenix’s Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The victory capped a 4-0 record in the state tournament.
Her title run:
— First round win by fall in 39 seconds over Phoenix Central’s Jazmine Jameson Johnson
— Quarterfinal win by fall in 1:25 over Gilbert Campo Verde’s Mosi Vaomotou
— Semifinal win by 5-1 decision over Glendale Deer Valley’s Olivia Melcher
— Championship win by 6-1 decision over Gatrost
For her overall performance in the 2025-26 season, especially her championship performance in February, Varner is the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month.
