CDO defeated Sabino Canyon 14-5 Tuesday night in the second round of the District 5 9-10 All-Star tournament held at Mehl Park. CDO (2-0) will face the winner of Oro Valley and Frontier on Thursday night. The winner of that game will advance to the Championship Bracket.

Sabino Canyon (0-1) will move over to the Elimination Bracket where they will take on Flowing Wells (0-1) on Wednesday night.

Sabino Canyon jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to an RBI double from Cody Calles and a two-RBI single from Rice Hughes but CDO responded with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-3 lead.

Stayton Brooks led things off with a triple and Emry Lopez doubled him in one out later. Grant Young drew a walk and Jake Newlin put down a sacrifice bunt that was misplayed. Connor Krug came up with an RBI ground out that was also misplayed. In all, CDO scored one earned run in the inning but Sabino canyon battled back to tie the game up in the top of the second after Calles came up with another RBI double.

CDO scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-4 lead. The scoring was paced by a double from Austin McGhee, an RBI from Lopez and two RBIs from Cruz Horn. Hughes came up with another RBI in the top of the fourth to cut the lead down to 8-5 but that was as close as Sabino Canyon would get.

CDO scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth to end the scoring. Young hit a double and came up with two RBIs down the stretch.

Calles went 3-4 with two doubles to lead Sabino Canyon. Hughes, Ronan Baker and Paden Good all saw pitching action for Sabino Canyon. Young and Newlin took the mound for CDO.
