Tuesday, June 27: Kreigh Park

CDO (3-1) beat Oro Valley 9-3 Tuesday night to advance to the championship round against Western (3-0) on Wednesday night at Kreigh Park. Western beat CDO 11-0 on Monday which means CDO will have to beat Western twice. The “If Game” will be played on Thursday.

Oro Valley took third place and finished 3-2 in the tournament.

CDO took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a 2-run shot by Josh Martinez. Oro Valley scored a run in the top of the second and two more in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Cole Clarkson had an RBI single to help Oro Valley take the lead.

CDO scored five runs in the bottom of the third with Carter Mitchell cashing in on a grand slam. Mitchell would go on to hit a double in the bottom of the fifth to help CDO score two more for the 9-3 final.

Jared Aykroyd started the game for CDO and he collected nine strikeouts in three innings of work. Lucas Cardy and Andrew Stucky also shared pitching duties. Mason White took the ball for Oro Valley and he collected five strikeouts.

Besides Clarkson, White and Cole Anderson picked up hits for Oro Valley while Dominic Felix, Stucky, and Aykroyd did the same for CDO.

Across town, Copper Hills defeated Santa Rita to claim the District 12 Intermediate (50/70) championship. The state tournament in this division starts on Friday, July 8 at Udall Park.
