Long-time University of Arizona assistant softball coach Larry Ray will be holding tryouts this coming Saturday and Sunday for the new Tucson Tech softball program.

The tryouts will be held at Amphitheater High School on Saturday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 14. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with tryouts scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both days. Athletes can pick a date. There is no registration fee but athletes must bring their own equipment.

Tucson Tech is a post-high school program for athletes who still have college eligibility and are looking to get more exposure and competition.

Ray helped guide Emory (Atlanta) to an NCAA D-III fifth place finish last year.

It was brought to my attention that I did not educate my readers on the troubled past Tucson Tech has had. Although this is the softball program and is being run by Larry Ray, the football program had quite a few issues to deal with and I am uncertain how all of those problems have been worked out. I’m guessing they have not been worked out based on my knowledge of the owner involved.  As with any post high school program, parents need to ask questions, especially since the same owner is involved as I mentioned.

If you go to https://arizonavarsity.rivals.com/ there is lengthy story right there called “House of Cards.”  I encourage you to read it. No other reporter in Southern Arizona or in the state has mentioned this story in print. Up to now, it has only been seen and discussed at length on Twitter.
