Desert Ridge (0-1) at Tucson (2-0)
Tucson High made the jump to the 6A Conference in this year and the Badgers have responded well with back-to-back wins in the conference by a combined 89-2 scoring margin. Tucson opened up with a 61-2 win over Buena (0-2) on Aug. 18 and a 28-0 win at Mountain Ridge (0-1) last Friday.
Meanwhile, Desert Ridge traveled to Norco, California last week and the Jaguars came away with a 14-10 loss. Desert Ridge finished 11-3 last year, ultimately losing to Centennial in the Division II state championship game. In fact, the Jaguars have won 11 games four years in a row and at least 10 games since 2010.
Senior QB C.J. Fowler returns for the Jaguars along with most his weapons from last year and Jorge Flores returns for his senior season to help lead the Badgers.
In many ways, this will be the first test for both teams. Desert Ridge struggled with five sacks last week and uneven play while Tucson has played two teams that have combined for three wins over the last two years.
Here are my personal rankings after Week One. Base point was the Sollenberger Preseason Rankings. The initial AIA/MaxPreps rankings will come out on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
