Cienega junior quarterback Jamarye Joiner verbally committed to play for the University of Arizona a few minutes ago.

“We are very excited and feel very blessed that he has chosen Arizona,” his mother Christina Pena told me.

Joiner has 581 yards passing and 358 yards rushing to help lead the Bobcats to a 5-0 record. Joiner is averaging almost 200 yards of offense a game even though he has seen limited action due to the Bobcats outscoring opponents 242 to 75.

Joiner transferred from Salpointe and will face the Lancers next Friday in a highly anticipated showdown. Joiner was our 2014 Freshman of the Year when he was at Salpointe. He was also named to the MaxPreps Freshman All-American Team that year and he earned a spot at the Adidas Freshman All-American Bowl.

AllSportsTucson.com caught up with Joiner at the Rich Rodriguez 7-on-7 camp this past summer to get the first glimpse of the standout with his Cienega gear on. His presence on the Cienega roster made it a no-brainer to include the Bobcats on my preseason Top-10 team.

His uncle,as pointed out by Mike Luke of SportsRadio1290. Tamoni Joiner gained 1,040 yards in his senior season with Amphitheater in 1995, a year after reaching 1,000 yards as a junior. The Southern Arizona Player of the Year went on to play defense for Oregon

Jamarye Joiner made a visit to the University of Arizona on June 5 and he was officially offered by the Wildcats on Saturday, Aug. 27.
