Notables following Arizona Wildcats’ game with No. 9 Washington

TOP NOTE: Arizona quarterback Brandon Dawkins ranks in the top 10 nationally in five statistical categories, with the highest at No. 2 — rushing yards per carry. He averages 8.9 yards per carry. The national leader is Louisville running back Brandon Radcliff at 9.2.

• No. 9 Washington (4-0, 1-0) topped Arizona 35-28 in overtime in front of 48,747 fans at Arizona Stadium, marking the first time the road team has won a game in this series since Arizona (2-2, 0-1) won in Seattle in 2007. Previous to Saturday’s win, the last time the Huskies won in Tucson was in 2006 when they defeated the Wildcats, 21-10.

• Arizona is now 47-111-1 all-time against teams ranked in the AP Top 25.

• The Wildcats dropped to 7-13 against ranked teams under coach Rich Rodriguez
and 5-4 at Arizona Stadium.

• Arizona’s opponents entered Saturday having been penalized 33 times in three games, which was the second-most for any FBS opponents so far in 2016. Washington was flagged eight times Saturday for 63 yards. Arizona was penalized just two times for 30 yards. That’s the second time this season the Wildcats have been penalized less than five times. They had only fou against BYU.

• Senior receiver Nate Phillips had two catches for five yards on Saturday. He had a one-yard catch on Arizona’s first drive of the game, extending Phillips’ consecutive games with a reception to 37 games. The Arizona record is 42 held by Dennis Northcutt and Bobby Wade. Phillip’s tied with Virginia’s Taquan Mizzell for the longest active streak by a receiver in a Power 5 conference. Overall, his streak is tied with Mizzell for the fifth-longest in all of FBS.

• Arizona collected four sacks Saturday against Washington and now have at least one sack in 15 straight contests, dating back to last season. Jack Banda tied his career high with two sacks, while Cody Ippolito added 1 1/2 and Paul Magloire had a 1/2 sack.

• Arizona quarterback Brandon Dawkins rushed for 176 yards on Saturday, marking the second straight game the quarterback has rushed for more than 100 yards in a game. Dawkins had a 79-yard touchdown rush, is the longest run by an Arizona quarterback since at least 1997. Jerrard Randall held the previous high with a 73-yard score last season against Northern Arizona.

• Dawkins entered Saturday’s game leading all Pac-12 players with four rushes of at least 20 yards. He added two such more runs Saturday against Hawaii. On top of the 79-yard touchdown, Dawkins also had a 56-yard rush.

• The Wildcats have now had a player rush for 100 or more yards in a game 51 times since coach Rich Rodriguez took over in 2012. With one more 100-plus rushing game from Dawkins, he’ll tie Randall for the most 100-yard games under Rodriguez as a quarterback.

• Sophomore receiver Shun Brown finished with seven catches for 114 yards, to establish new career highs in both categories. His previous highs were five catches and 92 yards, both set last week against Hawaii’s. Brown’s 114-yard performance marked the first time this season Arizona had a receiver collect a 100-yard game. The most recent 100-yard game by a receiver came from Cayleb Jones in last year’s New Mexico Bowl. Jones had four catches for 182 yards and a touchdown against the Lobos.

• The Wildcats’ first drive of the game spanned 15 plays, which is the longest drive of the 2016 season. The previous high was 12 plays.

• Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles led Arizona with eight tackles, one off his career high set earlier this season against Grambling State. Flannigan-Fowles, who had an interception in each of the last two games, had a pair of pass breakups Saturday against Washington. He also was part of a tackle that stopped Washington on a fourth-and-1 attempt in the third quarter.

• Banda set a new career high with five tackles, in addition to his two sacks. His sacks tie his career high, set last season at Colorado.

• Ippolito had 1 1/2 sacks after coming into the game with just one career sack to his credit.

• Cornerback Dane Cruikshank pulled down his first career interception in the fourth quarter on the 1-yard line as Washington was threatening to score.
