Ironwood Ridge standout Natalie Bartle broke 1,000 career points Friday night at Sahuaro. Bartle earned a spot on the AllSportsTucson.com Ironwood Ridge All-Time Team last season while only a sophomore. Lexy Ram has the Nighthawk career scoring record of 1,186 points.

“Ever since I was a freshmen, I witnessed other players score their thousand points and thought how cool it would be to do that some day,” Bartle said. “Now that it’s here and it happened it doesn’t seem real. I’ve been working on my basketball for years and it feels amazing having this big of an accomplishment.”

Two other Southern Arizona standouts reached 1,000 career points on Tuesday night. Catalina Foothills senior Kelsey Siemons broke 1,000 in first quarter action at Flowing Wells and Pueblo junior Ilyssa Galindo did it 20 minutes later in a game against Walden Grove at home.

It was the second time this year that two high-scoring players from Tucson broke 1,000 on the same night. Galindo’s teammate Araceli Loya broke 1,000 point on Dec. 16 at Cholla while St. Augustine standout Andrew Reyna broke that mark across town about 25 minutes later.

It’s unique for two teammates to break 1,000 career points in the same year but shooting guard Alicia Reyes broke 1,000 on Dec. 8 to give the Warriors three members in the exclusive 1,000-point club.

As mentioned, Pueblo standouts Reyes and Loya broke 1,000 career points earlier this year as did Walden Grove’s Conner Verdugo, Duncan’s Christopher Corona, Sunnyside’s Mikey Silva and Reyna of St. Augustine.

Leila El-Ali of Canyon del Oro and Taylor Thompson of The Gregory School broke 1,000 during the winter break. The Gregory School standout Addison Mort broke 1,000 career points during the break also.

Sahuaro standout Elena Arriaga broke 1,000 last week.

St. Augustine senior Jacob Dybas has 948 career points, Tanque Verde junior Anthony Gaxiola has 969 and The Gregory School senior Nick Rosquist has 1,987. Rosquist moved past former Amphitheater standout Tim Derksen (1,979) on the Southern Arizona career scoring list and is now in fifth place.
