The PacWest Conference named Azusa Pacific infielder Nick Estrella (Ironwood Ridge) Freshman of the Week for Feb. 6-13.
According to a release sent out by the conference, Estrella hit .500 (8-16) in a four-game sweep of Cal State San Bernardino with six RBI and six runs scored. He drove in a run and scored a run in each game. His best performance came in the finale, where he went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and three runs scored. It was the second multi-home run game of his career. Estrella is second in the PacWest in runs (10) and RBI (10) and third in hits (12).
This list was updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who had gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but college and professional awards. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.
