New Mexico State’s Kayla Green have been named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for May 1-7. This is the second honor of the season and third of her career for Green.
Green, a sophomore right-hander from Cienega started the game against Florida Atlantic last Thursday and threw the first four innings. She then reentered in the top of the seventh with a runner on first. After walking the next batter, Green settled in, recording three-straight outs to secure the victory and earn her fourth save of the season to tie the NM State single-season record. For the game, Green allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out three and walking two.
This list was updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who had gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but college and professional awards. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.
