Tucson Rattlers 17U split two games in Atlanta

The Tucson Rattlers 17U team came away with a split of their two games in the Nike Tournament of Champions AAU event in Atlanta on Thursday.

They beat the Tennessee Elite Shock 58-41 in their first game behind guard Natalie Bartle’s 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. Bartle is a former Ironwood Ridge High School player who will play her senior season in Michigan.

Tanque Verde’s Kiya Dorroh had nine points and new addition, Summer Fox of Pueblo, scored seven in the game.

The Rattlers shot 50 percent from the field (20 of 40) despite making only 1 of 11 from 3-point range.

Chris Klassen’s team had the unfortunate development of forward Lauren Green going down with a foot injury against Tennessee Elite. Green, a senior at Cienega who is drawing attention from Division I schools, was held out of the second game to be safe. Klassen said her foot will require an X-ray.

In the second game, the Rattlers lost to I-90 Elite 41-30. The Rattlers struggled from the field, shooting 22 percent (9 of 41). Baylee Slaughter of Marana added nine points and five rebounds.

The Rattlers will play another two games Friday before moving on to bracket play on Saturday.
