1,000 career points is a big number. It’s a big number usually associated with big names from big programs, the ones used to constant media coverage. But why not Daisy?

Meet Daisy Cornidez, senior from Sunnyside. She’s played in 84 games so far with most of them being difficult losses. Still, Daisy keeps coming. About a dozen girls from Southern Arizona have been added to the 1,000-point club in the last three years and they all deserved more recognition than I could ever give, but I’m having difficulty thinking of one who accomplished the task in relative anonymity, 12 points at a time…..

Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014 and he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017 and he has been a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years. His own children have won multiple state high school championships and were named to all-state teams.
