Former Arizona guard Nick Johnson in G-League championship series

Former Arizona guard Nick Johnson, the Pac-12 Player of the Year and consensus All-American in 2014, will play in the NBA’s G-League championship series with the Austin Spurs by virtue of a 103-94 win over the South Bay Lakers in Austin tonight.

Austin, the affiliate franchise of the San Antonio Spurs, will play the winner of Friday’s Erie (Pa.) and Raptors 905 game in the best-of-three championship series, which starts on Sunday in Austin.

Johnson had 19 points and eight rebounds in tonight’s victory. Former Colorado guard Derrick White led Austin with 35 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

Johnson, 25, is in his second stint with Austin. As a rookie in 2014-15, he played with the Houston Rockets and its affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He played with Austin in 2015-16 before playing in Germany last season for Bayern Munich.

He was signed by Austin this season and has averaged 11.7 points, 4 rebounds, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in 48 games, 41 of them as a starter.

Former Arizona player Isaiah Fox is an assistant coach with South Bay.
