First Team All-Southern Arizona pitcher Preston Clifford announced his commitment to play for New Mexico State. The Sabino senior helped lead Sabino to the 3A championship last year with an 8-0 record and 90 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings of work. He also batted .398 with 20 RBI, 13 doubles, five triples and two home runs.
Clifford went 2-for-3 in the championship game against Sahuarita with an RBI and he collected nine strikeouts.
“It’s rewarding,” his father BJ Clifford said. “It’s always awesome when your child is rewarded for an opportunity to continue to chase his dream! As his father, and best friend, I couldn’t be more pleased. Hard work always pays off, no matter the end result.”
