Sunnyside’s 2-time state champion Jesse Ybarra wins National Freestyle Championship

Sunnyside High School standout Jesse Ybarra beat Caleb Rathjen of Iowa (4-2) to win the 120-pound division at the Cadet Junior Freestyle Nationals taking place in Fargo, North Dakota. 128 wrestlers took part in the division and Ybarra went 7-0 with victories over wrestlers from Oregon, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Iowa.

Ybarra won the AIA Division I state champion in the 113-pound division last year as a sophomore and the 106-pound division as a freshman.

Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014 and he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017 and he has been a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years.
