Nogales 1-0 at West Region; AZ Boom in big game today at the NBC World Series

JUNIOR BASEBALL WEST REGION

Nogales scored three runs in the top of the fifth and three more in the seventh to beat Oregon 7-1 to open up play at the Junior League West Region taking place in San Jose.

Saul Soto picked up a groundout RBI in the first but Oregon tied things up in the bottom half of the inning. Robert Gallego picked up an RBI double top open up the scoring in the fifth and Demetrio Crisantes followed that up with an RBI single. Soto hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to put Nogales up 4-1.

Pablo Araujo put Nogales up 5-1 on a sacrifice of his own in the seventh and Soto does the same to make it 6-1. A wild pitch made it 7-1. Aiden Hernandez threw six inning for Nogales and Hatsue Denogean took over in the seventh. Oregon out hit Nogales 7-4 but four of those hits came from two players.

Crisantes went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Soto collected three RBI for Nogales. Nogales faces Northern California Tuesday afternoon.

NBC WORLD SERIES

Northwest Boom is 1-1 in pool pay at the 84th NBC World Series taking place in Wichita, Kansas. The Sun Belt College League champions are going up against the Mulvane, Kansas Patriots (2-0) Tuesday night.

LITTLE LEAGUE WEST REGION

The Little League West Regional is set for San Bernardino starting on Aug. 5 and Sunnyside will face Hawaii that opening Sunday.

AMERICAN LEGION WEST REGION

Firebirds Post 7 is set to face Colorado to open up the American Legion West Region Tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 8. The tournament is taking place in Denver from Aug. 8-12.
