Brandon Bean Soccer Invitational

The Brandon Bean Invitational is held every year to honor a former Salpointe player who passed away in 1992 after an on-field collision at a soccer scrimmage. In addition, the tournament also honors former Salpointe girl’s player Laura Kea who died in an auto accident on her way to a soccer tournament.

The boy’s side played true to form with No. 1 Sunnyside (5-0) and No. 2 Tucson (5-0) surviving bracket play on Friday to make it to the championship game set for Saturday night at 6 p.m.

Things were a bit different on the girl’s side with No. 2 Salpointe (5-0) making to the final where the Lancers will face No. 5 Ironwood Ridge (3-0-2) at 4 p.m. Saturday night. No. 8 Mountain View upset No. 1 Cienega in PKs (5-3) in the first match Friday morning and that set off a chain reaction with No. 6 Walden Grove beating No. 3 Sahuaro and Ironwood Ridge beating No. 4 Rincon/UHS.

Salpointe needed PKs to beat Walden Grove in the semifinals and Ironwood Ridge beat Mountain View in the other semifinal.
