Sabino did not end its season the way the Sabercats wanted in a 28-6 loss against Safford last night, but they get another shot on Friday in a first-round game at the Bulldogs’ home field.
Sabino, the No. 10 seed at 7-3, will play at No. 7 Safford (8-2) at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Sabino’s top player is junior quarterback A.J. Skaggs, one of the top players at his position in Southern Arizona. His favorite target, Diego Armijo, can play at the next level with his play-making ability.
Skaggs has completed 158 of 243 pass attempts for 1,983 yards with 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Armijo has 47 receptions for 567 yards with five touchdowns.
Sophomore defensive end Michael Masunas leads the Sabercats with six sacks.
Pusch Ridge (5-5) was the next highest rated local 3A team at No. 19. The top 16 teams made the playoffs.
