Pusch Ridge Football in Search of New Head Coach

Pusch Ridge’s football program, coached by Jerry Harris the last four years, will have a new head coach in 2020.

Harris went 30-16 in his tenure, including a 13-1 record in 2017 when the Lions advanced to the 3A state title game with dual-threat quarterback Christian Fetsis, who passed for 1,296 yards and rushed for 1,181.

The Lions finished 5-5 this season with a team of predominantly juniors and sophomores. Of the 39 players listed on its roster, Pusch Ridge had 27 juniors and sophomores, including running back Evan Lovett, son of former Arizona player Lamar Lovett (who was a member of Harris’ coaching staff).

Evan Lovett, a junior, gained 775 yards on 124 carries with 10 touchdowns this season. He has 2,010 yards rushing in his career on 250 carries with 23 touchdowns.

Salpointe Catholic is another local school with a coaching vacancy after this season with Dennis Bene stepping down after 19 years at his alma mater.
