18 football programs from around the state appealed their conference placements. Those appeals will be heard by the AIA Executive Board on Jan. 21. The final decisions will be posted on Jan. 22 and regions will be set by Jan. 28.
Empire is the only program from Southern Arizona to appeal. The Ravens finished 1-9 in the 5A Conference this past season and 6-4 the previous year. The team was in the 3A Conference in 2017.

Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014, he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017, a 2019 AZ Education News award winner and he has been a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years. His own children have won multiple state high school championships and were named to all-state teams.
