The Colts finished that winless year ranked last at 53rd under first-year coach Cole Colvin but the team made a huge jump to 27th in 2017 and a playoff spot came in 2018 with a No. 24 ranking. Tanque Verde girls basketball coach Michael Edwards picked up his 100th career win at Douglas last Friday. The Hawks are 17-4 and the team is ranked No. 5 in the 3A Conference as of Tuesday morning.

Rio Rico junior April Martinez broke 1,000 career points in a 52-30 win over Douglas Tuesday night. Her senior teammate Luisayde Chavez broke 1,500 career points.

Baboquivari senior Autumn Nelson broke 1,000 career points last Thursday against Tombstone. The No. 2 Warriors have back-to-back 1A state runner-up finishes.
Sabino standout Kamryn Doty broke 1,000 career points to help keep the Sabercats at 8-0 in power0ranking games.

Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014, he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017, a 2019 AZ Education News award winner and he has been a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years.
