Alyssa Brown Watch: Sahuaro Junior Two Shy of Southern Arizona Season Scoring Record, 19 Away from 2,000 Career Points

Sahuaro junior forward Alyssa Brown is closer to two significant milestones after scoring 31 points tonight in the Cougars’ 53-38 win over visiting Catalina Foothills in the regular-season finale.

Brown, 6-foot-1, is now at 1,981 points in her career, only 19 away from reaching 2,000 points. Only seven other players from Southern Arizona have reached 2,000 points in a career with Julie BraseLute Olson’s granddaughter formerly of Catalina Foothills — having the state record of 2,913 points.

No Southern Arizona player, boys or girls, has reached 3,000 points in a career.

Brown is also only two points away from the Southern Arizona season scoring record. She has 819 points this season. Former Green Fields star Olivia Snyder finished with 821 in 2012-13.

The state record for scoring in a season is 929 points by Brittney Strummer of Scottsdale Coronado in 2005-06.

Sahuaro (25-1) clinched the 4A Kino regular-season title with a 10-0 record. Avoiding the play-in round, the Cougars’ next game is not until next Wednesday in the 4A state tournament.
