Former Ironwood Ridge Standout Jake Engel & Empire Standout Noelle Kerr Earn Weekly Conference Awards

Jake Engel (DSU)

Former Ironwood Ridge standout Jake Engel was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Baseball Player of the Week on Tuesday for his efforts in Dixie State’s home series sweep of Adams State last weekend at Bruce Hurst Field.

Engel batted an even .500 (7-for-14) and led the team with two home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and four HBPs in four starts over the weekend. He also posted a 1.071 slugging percentage, .611 on-base percentage, and an OPS of 1.682.

Engel extended his hit streak to 21-straight games with an RBI single as part of a 1-for-4 day with a run scored in Sunday’s finale. Engel’s hit streak includes all 16 starts this season, and his final five starts of the 2019 campaign. He has batted .457 (27-for-59) during the streak with 12 multi-hit outings to go with eight doubles, seven homers, 32 RBI and 30 runs scored. In fact, he has driven in at least one run in six-straight starts and in 16 of the 21 games overall.

Former Empire standout Noelle Kerr had the best weekend of her Maroon & White career, and she was named both the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week and the Logger of the Week for Puget Sound.

Kerr earned two of the Loggers’ three wins over Willamette (March 7-8), which included her first-career complete game. Kerr earned her first win of the weekend by throwing two shutout innings in relief during Puget Sound’s 12-10 win over the Bearcats.

The following game, Kerr allowed just two runs through seven innings as Puget Sound won the third game of the series, 3-2. Kerr also got it done with the bat, totaling three hits, a double, and three RBI.

This list will be updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but collegiate and professional recognitions. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.
