AllSportsTucson.com is running profiles on some of the players who are participating in the Sun Belt College Summer League this summer at the Kino Sports Complex. Today we are highlighting former Cienega standout Daniel Montana, who was showcased in Andy Morales’ “The Interviews” series at AllSportsTucson.com.

Name: Daniel Montana

Height: 6-1. Weight: 215

Sun Belt Team: Southeast Wildcats

High School: Cienega (Class of 2020)

College: Community Christian College at Redlands, Calif.

Sports: Football (quarterback) and baseball (catcher, first base and third base).

Baseball stats: .342 batting average in 29 varsity games his junior and senior seasons at Cienega with two home runs and 13 RBIs in 88 at-bats.

Interesting fact: When Montana was a freshman on the junior varsity team in 2017, former Cienega standout Nick Gonzales was a senior. Gonzales went on to become the national player of the year at New Mexico State this season and was selected No. 7 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB Draft on Wednesday. Occasionally, Gonzales would visit with Montana and the other JV players to offer them advice. “He helped me along the way, kind of fixed my swing a little bit,” Montana said. “He kind of coached me up a little bit to become a better player and more smarter.”
