AZ Cotton Kings Win 12U USSSA Desert Classic in Gilbert

The AZ Cotton Kings 12U baseball team out of Marana went 4-0 over the weekend to capture the championship of the USSSA Desert Classic held at the Cactus Yards in Gilbert, Arizona.

The AZ Cotton Kings scored 10 runs in the bottom of the second to erase a 3-1 deficit and the team added five more runs in the third to help run-rule the Scottsdale Twisters 16-4 to open up pool play. Devin went 2-3 with a double, home run and four RBI to lead the team from Marana. Rilee and Easton connected on triples and Josh and Junior had doubles. Easton, Brayden and Junior had two RBI and Austin added another. Mike walked twice and scored a run. Mikey collected six strikeouts for the win and Kai also saw action on the mound with three strikeouts.

The AZ Cotton Kings took care of the Mesa Mountain Lions 8-3 in the other pool game after scoring four runs in the top of the fourth to break a 2-2 tie. Brayden and Kai had doubles in the game, Mikey went 2-3 with two RBI, Junior and Kai had RBIs and Josh went 2-3. Junior picked up the win with three strikeouts.

The Mountain Lions got a rematch on Sunday and the team from Mesa took a 4-0 lead on the Marana team but AZ Cotton Kings scored two in the second to cut the lead down and then four in the third to take a 6-5 lead after the Mountain Lions went up 5-2. The AZ Cotton Kings closed out the comeback with three runs in the fourth for the 9-5 win. Brayden, Mikey and Rilee had doubles. Junior went 2-2 with two RBI, Brayden had two RBI and Rilee and Kai added RBIs. Kai, Austin and Josh saw pitching action in the win.

The AZ Cotton Kings took a 4-0 lead on the East Valley Knights in the bottom of the first and added another run in the second to hold off the team from Gilbert 6-3 in the final. Josh and Logan collected doubles in the win while Josh picked up four strikeouts from the mound and Mikey added another for the save. Easton, Josh, Rilee, Junior and Mikey had RBIs in the game. Logan went 1-2.
