Cienega was forced to scramble again to find an opponent the week of a game because of COVID-19 cancellations but at least they have more than 16 hours to potentially prepare for an opponent this week.
The Bobcats (2-0) are now scheduled to host Laveen Cesar Chavez at 7 p.m. Friday for Senior Night. They were originally slated to play at Buena, but the Colts are shut down until the week of Nov. 30 because a recent outbreak of COVID-19 at the Sierra Vista high school.
Cienega’s game with Nogales last week was canceled because one of the Apaches tested positive for COVID-19. The Bobcats were without a game until Friday night, when Buena had to cancel its game at Ironwood Ridge.
Cienega and Ironwood Ridge met 16 hours later and the Bobcats prevailed 36-22.
The Bobcats’ senior running back Gabe Levy can continue his realistic shot at 1,000 yards rushing in seven games. He has 359 yards rushing on 46 carries with four touchdowns.
Chavez (1-1) became available when Phoenix North canceled this week.
Cienega coach Pat Nugent is cautiously optimistic of the game being played against Chavez.
“Let’s hope we get there,” he mentioned in a text message.
