Marana standout Gigi Garcia’s grandfather, Hector Abril was an All-State guard with Marana in the late 60s and he was a member of multiple state championship teams for the Tigers. He was part of team championships in football, track and field and basketball. His basketball coach was none other than the late Norm Patton.
Norm Patton’s daughter, Kelly Fowler runs the Desert Thunder organization and she helps coach Abril’s granddaughter Gigi. Abril’s wife, Darlene was a cheerleader for the Tigers at the time. Even more, Fowler was Gigi’s mother’s PE teacher at Coyote Trails, Julianna Abril.
